Clara Lorraine Taylor

December 11, 1935 - January 11, 2015

As a child, Clara was an avid reader and was passionate about learning.  Clara read hundreds of books.  She often spoke of the places she would go, and the adventures she experienced when reading her beloved books.  Clara walked for miles to reach the nearest library for the opportunity to read. By the age of 10, Clara had read the entire children's section in the library and was overjoyed when the librarian encouraged her to begin reading in the young adult section.

Clara was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. Her desire was to go to college to become an educator, and her wish eventually came true. She attended the Community College of Philadelphia earning an Associate's Degree and graduating with honors. But Clara didn't stop there; she continued her education by attending Temple University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree and then a Master's Degree in Education. She decided to specialize in "Special Education" and continued going to Temple University until she had the equivalency of a Doctorate Degree. She worked for the School District of Philadelphia for 30 years before retiring at the age of 60.

As an educator, Clara enjoyed working with all children of various grades and backgrounds.  She used creativity and individualization to ensure that all of her pupils succeeded. Clara left a legacy, and would often state, nothing beats a failure but a try!  She would always encourage her students and even her children to strive to do their best in whatever they do.

Clara Unites Education is doing just that! In Clara's memory, we will continue to encourage each child to simply do their best by providing the resources needed to succeed.  Giving them the opportunity to "try", so that they may reach their full potential.
